Southern provinces urged to save power during temporary shutdown

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has urged people in the southern provinces to save electricity as the Jana power plant will stop its power supply due to technical problems at a natural gas production platform in the Joint Development Area (JDA) with Malaysia.

It will take about three days to solve the problems at the JDA-A18 gas field, according to Egat spokesman Saharat Boonpotipakdi. As a result, power saving in southern provinces is necessary during this period to avoid supply disruption.
Due to the gas supply shortage, a 710-megawatt power plant at Jana has switched to use diesel to generate electricity while another 766-megawatt plant is still undergoing modification, so Egat needs to get additional power supply to meet the southern region's demand for a total of 2,350 megawatts.
