Prayut urges ‘democracy with good governance’ on 85th anniversary of Parliament

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday urged people to help put in place democracy with good governance as the country marked the 1932 Siamese Revolution that saw the country become a constitution monarchy.

He spoke on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of Thai Parliament, where a ceremony was held in the morning to mark the occasion.
Prayut said democracy in the past had been on a bumpy road and he wished to see it re-established with good governance.
“As the country evolves into democracy, it should be democracy with good governance so that we do not encounter the bumpy road again. This should be put in place from today, and this will be the real change for the country,” he said.
Democrat Party deputy leader Nipit Intrasombat, meanwhile, called on Prayut to make clear his stance on political parties, in light of the four questions the premier posed the public on Thailand’s future ahead of planned election.
Nipit said he did not believe the election would take place in line with Prayut’s road map to democracy, with lawmakers locking horns over the enactment of several organic laws. This suggested the road map would drag on, he said.
“It’s like watching a drama, a Likay (traditional Thai folk theatre),” said Nipit of the ongoing tussles over the law enactment among lawmakers and drafters.
