Woman motorcyclist killed by tourist bus in Phuket

A bus carrying Chinese tourists crashed into a motorcycle and killed the female rider on Thursday night at the notorious downhill Patong Road in Phuket after its brakes malfunctioned.

Ratana Sukpisan, 44, was killed at the scene. Her pillion rider, Thananya Silachan, 40, was injured and taken to Patong Hospital.
The bus driver, Wutthichai Srichan, 42, was severely injured when the vehicle crashed into a house wall on the roadside, said Pol Lt Col Jongserm Preecha, deputy commander of the Patong police station.
The accident happened on the downhill section of road in front of Wat Suwan Khiriwong in Tambon Patong.
Police said 26 Chinese tourists were slightly injured and they were taken to the Patong Hospital for a checkup and treatment.
The bus was transporting the Chinese tourists back to their hotel at Patong beach, but its air brakes malfunctioned, prompting the driver to lose control and hit the motorcycle before hitting a house wall.
