Netflix brings theatre-sound Dolby Atmos to homes

Netflix, the leading Internet-streaming video-on-demand provider, is releasing new movie titles with state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos so that its users can enjoy theatre-quality sound in the comfort of their homes.

Netflix announced via a press statement that the first title with Dolby Atmos from Netflix was “Okla”, which was released on the network on June 28.
Dolby Atmos support will also be available this year for “BLAME!” (scheduled for Netflix release on July 28), “Death Note” (August 25), “Bright” (December) and “Wheelman”.
Netflix said it had decided to adopt Dolby Atmost to add more dimension to storytelling.
Netflix is the world’s leading Internet television network with over 100 million members in more than 190 countries enjoying more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films.
Greg Peters, the company’s chief product officer, said Dolby Atmos “is a critical tool to extend the storytelling beyond the screen and draw audiences into the narrative”.
Many of the titles with Dolby Atmos sound will also be available in 4K and HDR, delivering spectacular visuals to complement the immersive sound, the company’s statement added.
Dolby Atmos streaming is supported on Microsoft’s Xbox One, One S and 2017-model LG OLED TVs.
On the Xbox, users can get this experience when their console is connected to a Dolby Atmos-enabled home-theatre system, TV or soundbar, or via headphones using the new Dolby Atmos for headphones feature available for purchase through the Dolby Access app in the Xbox Store.
The LG OLED TVs have built-in Dolby Atmos capabilities that create a 360° sound field around you without the need to connect an external sound system.
