Assembly set to consider controversial foreign workers law

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) will consider the controversial Executive Decree on Foreign Workers Management on Thursday.

Dr Jetn Sirathranont, spokesman for the NLA whip, revealed on Tuesday that the new law had been submitted to the NLA for consideration.
“We either approve or disapprove the law,” he said. “We cannot amend anything”.
Taking effect on June 23, the Executive Decree has caused loud complaints from various sides prompting the government to offer a 180-day grace period. Now suspended are clauses related to tough penalties against offending employers and workers.
