Two ‘guides’ charged after family alleges threats, beating

A Chinese family of four has thanked Chon Buri's Pattaya Tourist Police after they had arrested two tour guides Wednesday night for allegedly threatening them with physical harm after refusing to buy an additional tour package.

Pattaya Tourist Police Inspector Pol Lt Colonel Piyapong Ensarn led a team at 9pm on Wednesday to arrest Thai guide Chaitoon Soisaeng, 25, for allowing another person to perform tour guide duty without a proper licence.

Chinese national Liu Longzhe, 58, was also arrested for working as a tour guide in Thailand without permission. Piyapong said the arrest stemmed from a police complaint filed by the Chinese family of four who had toured Thailand during July 9-15 after paying for a 2,200-yuan-per-head package.

The family alleged that they had turned down Liu’s offer of an additional tour package worth 1,100 yuan (Bt5,500) on Tuesday and was told, “You must be careful of your safety throughout the stay in Pattaya”. The family claimed that Liu threatened them again next day and beat one family member.

They became fearful and lodged a complaint with the Tourist Police, the officer said.
