Ex-lawyer and ‘accomplice’ appear in court over alleged swindle of disabled teen

Ex-lawyer and ‘accomplice’ appear in court over alleged swindle of disabled teen

Police brought former lawyer Pisit Sammalert and his alleged female accomplice to Bangkok's Taling Chan provincial court on Tuesday to apply for the first 12-day detention period.

Police objected to a bail release for the duo, arguing they are a flight risk.
It is alleged they cheated a 14-year-old disabled road accident victim out of Bt4 million in compensation.
Another alleged acconmplice in the case, Pornpaveen Chukaew, is currently in jail in a separate drug case in Chumphon province.
The two suspects looked stressed and exhausted in court on Tuesday. None of their relatives showed up at court.
Pisit, 59, was arrested with Pattharawadee Sawasdee, 39, on Sunday night at the parking lot of a condominium in Soi Ram-Indra 125 in Bangkok's Min Buri district.
The Taling Chan provincial court had earlier issued arrest warrants for the duo and Pornpaveen for allegedly forging a document to cheat Pasit's pro-bono client, Porntip Chantharat, 44, and her wheelchair-bound 14-year-old daughter, Pattarada “Beam” Kaewpong, out of the Bt4 million following the 2005 road accident.
