Alleged rapist of teen refuses to re-enact crime

Alleged rapist of teen refuses to re-enact crime

A man accused of raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl in the Ban Pho district of Chachoengsao province on July 12 refused to perform a crime re-enactment and apologise before the girl's body, provincial police chief Pol Maj-General Theerapol Jindaluang said on Friday.

The suspect, Supornchai Noonoi, 31, an alleged serial rapist linked to at least four other rape cases – in Khon Kaen in 2008, 2015 and last year, as well as another rape in June of a 30-year-old woman in Chon Buri's Panat Nikhom district – did not confess to the crime against the teen out of remorse, Theerapol explained.
Supornchai, who was nabbed on Wednesday based on DNA evidence, confessed because he was confronted with clearly incriminating evidences, which are sufficient to prosecute him even without a crime re-enactment, Theerapol said.
Police were also worried that the angry crowd at the re-enactment scenes might attack the suspect and escorting police officers, he admitted.
A group of 60 people, led by the murder victim's relatives, had showed up at the Ban Pho Police Station on Thursday afternoon to demand that the officers bring the suspect to perform a crime re-enactment and apologise before the girl's body. Despite police claims that the officers had to gather evidence for submission along with a detention request to court on Friday and that the suspect was linked to more cases, the villagers insisted on the demand for an apology from the suspect.
They even suggested to bring the girl's body to the precinct for the suspect to apologise in front of everyone.
The protest went on for hours until Theerapol patiently explained the law and promised to proceed with the investigation carefully and fast. The villagers left at around 7pm.
