Myanmar couple arrested over Thai man’s murder, motorcycle theft

Mae Sot police on Friday arrested a Myanmar couple on suspicion that they murdered a Thai man and took away his motorcycle to sell across the border the previous day.

Pol Lt-Colonel Jirasak Sritham, deputy inspector of Mae Sot police station, said the couple were arrested Friday morning after they crossed the border back to Mae Sot.
The suspects were identified as Saw Nin, 25, and Piew Nin, 14.
They were accused of killing Jirawat Jiewcharoen, 41, at his house in the Mae Sot Villa housing estate in tambon Mae Sot of Tak’s Mae Sot district.
The police officer said the two were Jirawat’s acquaintances. Visiting him on Thursday, they quarreled with Jirawat and slashed his throat with a knife, Jirasak said.
The police officer said the two took Jirawat’s motorcycle to sell in Myanmar and returned to Mae Sot where they were arrested at the Buakhoon community in Mae Sot Municipality area.
The police officer said the two admitted to killing Jirawat but claimed they did it in self-defence.
Police took the two for a crime re-enactment at Jirawat’s house and some 10 relatives of the man attempted to attack the couple. Police managed to fend off the attack and took the suspects back to the police station.
