Locals help old woman living alone in ramshackle hut

Locals have come to the aid of a 90-year-old woman living alone in a bamboo hut with a leaky roof in Phang Nga province.

Help poured in after the ordeal of Sri Sombat spread online.
The woman has no relatives and her husband died a decade ago.
Since then she has lived on public land in a small house built for her by a local government agency some 20 years ago.
The home’s galvanised iron-sheet roof rusted.
The woman moved her belongings to a neighbour’s home when it rained heavily.
Sermpong Sarikdisjk, a provincial councillor, and locals fixed the house.
They also donated living necessities to her, including a gas cooker, a rice cooker, a mattress, a blanket and a radio receiver, bringing a smile to her face.
Thanakorn Mitwong, a member of the Phang Nga Chamber of Trade, visited the woman to give her money and clothes.
Sermpong said he would like government agencies to relocate the woman to her relatives so she no longer lived alone.
