Five homes demolished to make way for Chao Phraya riverbank project

Five homes demolished to make way for Chao Phraya riverbank project

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Tuesday demolished five riverside homes in Wat Khahabodi Community in Bang Plat district to make way for the Chao Phraya riverbank project.

BMA Deputy Governor Jakkapan Phiew-ngam, who led officials to oversee the work in Soi Charansanidwong 44, said the homeowners had agreed to move out.
He said the project – part of the fist phase of the project to build a concrete walkway along both sides of the Chao Phraya River covering a total of 14 kilometres – would start in September. He identified 282 structures, 273 homes and nine piers, in 14 communities that intruded on the river.
So far, two communities in Dusit district, one community in Bang Sue and two communities in Bang Plat, including the Wat Khahabodi Community, had co-operated with the BMA to move out and allow demolition.
Jakkapan also said that the owners of the intruding homes would be given compensation money during a ceremony at the City Hall on Wednesday.
