All hands on deck for flood threat in Roi Et

All hands on deck for flood threat in Roi Et

Hundreds of worried citizens in Roi Et’s Selaphum district gave provincial administration officials a hand strengthening flood levees along the Chi River on Tuesday.

Residents joined in the urgent defensive work, stacking sandbags higher along the riverbanks after several areas were inundated, included a three-kilometre stretch of road linking two villages in Tambon Na Loeng.
Roi Et Governor Sarirk Withoon took charge of the operation involving staff of the province’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and Provincial Administration Office.
The governor said the swollen river was threatening 162 houses, a temple, a school and 1,859 rai of paddy fields, making raising the levees a matter of urgency.
He said another 30,000 sandbags would be needed quickly and asked people to donate 10,000 empty bags strong enough to hold sand.
