Two injured as plane crashes during test

A two-seater aeroplane crash-landed in Rayong’s Klaeng district during a test flight Sunday morning.

The accident seriously injured both persons on board. They are Sayam Nimkhao, a 43-year-old mechanic, and 63-year-old flight-training instructor Lerphan Sarapaiwanich.
“Sayam was found inside the aeroplane while Lerphan was found on the ground,” Klaeng Police Station’s deputy superintendent Pol Lt-Colonel Sarawut Kongsuk said.
Wreckage of the aircraft was found in a forest zone near a small airstrip at Ban Chamrung in Tambon Noen Kho Klaeng district, he said. The front section of the aircraft was badly damaged.
Both victims have been receiving treatment at Klaeng Hospital.
Security guards at the airstrip said the two were operating test flights following repairs to the plane. The aircraft operated normally in the first test. But the problem occurred during the second test.
“Just as the aeroplane was about to land, it seemed to have lost its balance and spiralled into a tree,” a security guard said.
Police are investigating the incident.
