Man injured in fall from Phrae rooftop

A man was seriously injured when he fell from the rooftop balcony of a three-storey building in his neighbourhood of Phrae’s Muang district.

The wounded man was identified as Jirayut Meechaicharoen. His 51-year-old mother, Amporn, told police that Jirayut had been in and out of hospital for mental health rehabilitation due to drug abuse.
After his most recent release from Phrae Hospital five days ago, he had been acting hostile and allegedly tried to attack her with a knife, so she went to stay with a neighbour.
Neighbour Jariya Boonchan corroborated Amporn’s story and added that she brought food for Jirayut in the morning, and he had asked to drink two bottles of beer “for the last time”. He then started playing a guitar. After she left, she heard that he had fallen from the building.
Jiriya also said that the building in question would normally be locked, so she didn't know how Jirayut could get access to the rooftop balcony.
Pol Captian Damrong Jankrajang, the case investigator, said police had sealed the scene for inspection by forensic officers. Police initially suspected that the man had fallen due to an accident or a suicide attempt, but they would investigate further.
At time of publication, the man was being treated and was unable to speak to police.
