Thai DSI reopens case of Kayin maid’s death

Thai DSI reopens case of Kayin maid’s death

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation is reinvestigating the case of a Kayin maid who apparently committed suicide in Lopburi province, according to the Thailand-based Aid Alliance Committee (AAC).

The 17-year old Kayin girl, Nyo Nyo Aye, was found dead with two bullet holes in the back of her head, and her employer reported the case as a suicide at the police station.

The employer sent the body to her relatives near the border along with US$ 150.22 on August 8.

“The DSI is performing DNA test to determine whether the gun used in the ‘suicide’ was handled by her or not,” said legal advisor Ko Ko Naing of the AAC.

“The mother of the deceased and her elder sister are temporarily staying at the AAC’s office as they do not dare to stay in their village. Although the Myanmar embassy in Thailand said they will help with the case, no help has been provided yet,” said Ye Min, head of the AAC.

Nyo Nyo Aye had worked in Lopburi for over three years and was left-handed. Many people familiar with the case have pointed out that the bullet wounds are on the right side of her head.
