Troops escape bombing in Pattani uninjured
Insurgents detonated a roadside bomb in an ambush of a teacher-protection and patrol unit in Pattani’s Yarang district on Wednesday morning but no one was injured.
The explosion occurred on Ban Sarong-Ban Laewae Road in Tambon Khaotoom’s Moo 3 village at 8am.
Police said the six soldiers were patrolling in a pickup truck and on two motorcycles after they escorted teachers to school, when an unknown number of insurgents detonated a bomb with a walkie-talkie.
The bomb was assembled in a gas cylinder with explosives weighing about 20 kilograms, police said.
Shrapnel slightly damaged the pickup but did not hit any of the troops.
