KKU, KMITL home designs for elderly bag awards

Students from Khon Kaen University (KKU) and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) won awards for the most elderly-friendly home design in a competition organised by Government Housing Bank (GHB).

The three winning designs were: Baan Yu Yen by KKU architecture student Siriporn Khamkaew; L House by KKU architecture student Parinya Netkham; and Baan Wan Wan by KMITL architecture student Peerapol Sutthimakpol. They were each awarded Bt100,000 as scholarship by GHB. The award-presentation ceremony was held on Thursday during the GHB Expo opening ceremony.
The three designs were chosen from models submitted by 10 participating institutes during June-July and were selected by a judge panel comprising experts and executive members from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Architecture, Home Builder Association and GHB.
Siriporn said her Baan Yu Yen model would allow the whole family to live comfortably together, as it is equipped with facilities for family members of all age groups, including Internet Wi-Fi, mobility aids and intelligent lighting.
The award-winning, elderly-friendly home models are currently on display at the GHB Expo at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok. The event ends on Sunday.
