His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has graciously granted a large amount of pet food to 58-year-old Wandee Moongkhamen who cares for 43 street dogs in Samut Songkhram’s Muang district.

Royal Thai Airforce’s Major General Thawatchai Srikaew presented the pet food to Wandee at a ceremony on Tuesday morning at Puang Malai temple.
Also in attendance were Samut Songkhram provincial governor Khanchat Tansathien and the provincial livestock development office head Wilailak Kanchanawat. With tears of joy in her eyes, Wandee said she felt deeply grateful for His Majesty’s kindness to her and her dogs.
Thawatchai also visited the Wandee Moongkhamen Animal Shelter at its new location – a five-rai plot of land in Tambon Thaihad, which belonged to construction business owner Uthai Damrongthasm.

Uthai gave Wandee permission to keep her dogs there free of charge on condition that the dogs must be nurtured and given rabies vaccines.
The businessman also had the land cleared and levelled and will provide her with tap water and electricity. A house for Wandee is under construction.
It was also revealed that the Muang Samut Songkhram Municipality has provided 50 kilograms of rice for the dogs on a monthly basis while the provincial livestock development office gave vaccines, dog and cat sterilisation services and veterinary treatment. Several state agencies also pitched in other necessities.
The new location is about 500 metres from the temple where Wandee has been earning Bt1,000 a month as a toilet cleaner. It is also about 700 metres from the old plot of land where she had stayed with no electricity and water and was evicted by an unnamed Bangkok owner on grounds that she was “causing trouble”.
