Sculpture of Khun Thong Daeng ready for Royal funeral

Sculpture of Khun Thong Daeng ready for Royal funeral

A sculpture of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s favorite pet dog, Khun Thong Daeng, has been completed, and is to be placed at the royal crematorium, reported National News Bureau of Thailand.

The Fine Arts Department had earlier assigned the Office of Traditional Arts to create sculptures to decorate the royal crematorium for the Royal funeral of the highly-beloved King, and they included a 70-centimeter tall sculpture of Khun Thong Daeng that will be placed on the fourth floor next to the bier.
Former director of the Fine Arts Department, Chin Prasong, who created the model of the sculpture, said that Khun Thong Daeng’s sculpture is an important piece of decoration for the royal funeral and it is completely finished.
Chin said that the sculpture effectively portrays deep sorrow at the passing of the King, seen in the eyes.
He added that it took three months for the sculpture to be completed and the essence of this task was not only to render the impression of how real the finished work looks but also to include the spirit of Khun Thong Daeng, the pet dog the revered monarch loved dearly, for all to see.
AFP photos show Chin indications to Pitchapong Parsing as Parsing gives the finishing touches of paint to a sculpture of one of the dogs owned by the late Thai King on August 31.
