Waste scavenger, 81, killed crossing Samut Sakhon road

An 81-year-old woman scavenging for plastic bottles was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing a Samut Sakhon road early on Thursday.

Pol Capt Chanon Klinhom stationed in Amphawa district said the accident happened at 5.30am in front of Wat Bang Kaprom.
Pickup driver Kitichai Suksommanas, 52, told police he was returning from Mae Klong Market and because of the heavy rain did not see the woman, identified as Somsuan Arampoj.
Chanon said Somsuan had been living with her sister and had no other relatives. She earned a daily income collecting and reselling discarded plastic bottles.
