Fire engulfs perfume factory warehouses in Samut Prakan

Three warehouse buildings of a perfume factory in Samut Prakan’s Bangplee district were engulfed by a massive fire early on Saturday.

The fire started at 1am. About 20 fire engines rushed to the Milott Laboratories Co Ltd on Soi Thanasit off Thepharak Rd.
The blaze started at a warehouse building and spread to two other buildings as well as damaging a pickup truck and three forklift vehicles parked nearby, police said.
Firefighters could not put out the blaze due to the large number of containers with concentrated perfume and alcohol kept in the buildings. They were able to contain the blaze from spreading further.
After two hours, the roof of the first building collapsed.
At its peak the fire threatened two 10,000-litre alcohol tanks near a building, and firefighters concentrated efforts on defending the tanks.
Employee, Athiwat Akkhahad, 25, said the warehouses contained leftover materials from manufacturing cosmetics and perfume as well as chemicals for making the products.
He and many others were working in another building in the same compound when they were alerted of the fire so they rushed out, he said.
Realising that they could not put out the blaze, firefighters decided at 4:55am to contain it and allow it to burn itself out.
