Rule of law workshops planned by Justice Institute and Harvard Law

Harvard’s law school will join with the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) to hold workshops about the rule of law and policy next January.

The collaboration between TIJ and the Institute of Global Law and Policy (IGLP) is intended to strengthen the capabilities of personnel and agencies involved in justice systems in Thailand, Asia, and the international community.
Professors and experts from the Harvard Law School and the TIJ network would design a “globally-renowned curriculum”, said a press release.
The program’s focus on the rule of law makes it unique in Asia, said Prof Kittipong Kittayarak, executive director of the Thailand Institute of Justice. Rule of law and appropriate judicial processes are “crucial to ending inequality and injustice in society”, said Kittipong.
Both are also vital for laying a foundation for sustainable development in accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 16 - peace, justice, and strong institutions.
“It connects the rule of law with sustainable development, and also develops human resources and connects people to a network of change agents who can creatively develop society in line with the Thailand 4.0 strategy,” said Kittipong.
The “TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy” and the “IGLP Workshop,” are scheduled to take place from January 7-12, 2018.
