Rhino-horn smugglers arrested at airport

Rhino-horn smugglers arrested at airport

Three Vietnamese passengers were arrested at the Suvarnabhumi Airport early Sunday on charges of rhino-horn smuggling.

The haul is worth more than Bt15 million.
Arrested as they entered the country were Yoeng Ba Ngia, 27, Nguen Thi Thujang, 30, and Pham Thi Thanghuei, 56.
Found in the luggage bags were 15 rhino horns weighing about 7.4 kilograms.
Customs officials said the three suspects, who all work in Angola, admitted to having been paid Bt32,000 each to carry the rhino horns from Angola to Vietnam.

Airport authorities say they received a tip-off that rhino-horn smugglers would board a flight from Angola’s Luanda to Vietnam’s Hanoi via Ethiopia and then Thailand.
They thus paid extra attention to air passengers travelling on that route.
