Thai welders win international competition

Four Thai vocational students individually won three gold medals and one silver medal and jointly won a gold medal for highest overall score from the Zeitplan Yung Welding Competition 2017 (Weldcup 2017) in Germany, according to Secretary-General at the Office of the Vocational Education Commission Suthep Chitayawong.

The team will arrive back in Thailand on Monday.
It was the first year that Thailand sent representatives to join this contest, which is held by the DVS German Welding Society every four years.
The Thai students competed with teams from 16 countries in four technical categories - electric welding, metal active gas (MAG) welding, tungsten inert gas welding and gas welding, Suthep said.
The gold medalists were Saranpong Tisanont from Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Sichon Technical College in the electric welding category, Thanant Pattanapulpol from Nan Technical College in the MAG welding category, and Uthen Phad-on-ai from Tak Technical College in the TIG welding category. The silver medalist was Thanat Inliang from Phitsanulok Technical College in the gas welding category. 
Suthep said the Thailand team also won an additional gold medal for the overall highest scores. 
Congratulating the winning students, Suthep also thanked the teachers' association and the private sector in the welding field, including RPS Supply Co, Phusuwan Intertrade Co and Mitcharoen Cablework Co, for their support to the team. He also thanked the team's trainers prior to contest, Department of Skill Development official Watcharapong Mukcherd and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi lecturer Bowornchok Pupat.
