Bus fares discounted for late King’s funeral period

Transport Company will give 20 per cent discount in bus fares on October 25-29 to accommodate people attending the Royal Cremation of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej in Bangkok.

CEO Jirasak Yaovatsakul said the discount is applicable for the company’s buses on all routes longer than 300 kilometres, starting just after midnight on October 25 to midnight on October 29.

In addition, the company's buses on the Bangkok-Saraburi and Bangkok-Ayutthaya routes would offer the discounted fares for October 26.

For the October 25-29, Transport Company expects 9,233 bus trips to support 186,788 passengers per day. There project 5,086 bus trips per day for the Northern and Northeastern routes to cover 114,527 passengers, 1,199 bus trips for the Eastern routes to cover 20,669 passengers and 2,948 bus trips for the Southern routes to cover 51,592 passengers.

Transport Company has also joined with privately run bus concessionaires to arrange free shuttle bus rides during the period in both directions between Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal and Sanam Luang.

The day's first shuttle bus will depart Mo Chit at 4.30am and would then depart hourly all day, Jirasak said.

The company would also provide free parking space for group travellers at 50 parking lots in the Southern Bus Terminal (Pin Klao) and 100 parking lots under the expressway opposite the Mo Chit 2 during the period.

The company’s call centre has further details at 1490. Officials previously estimated that 250,000 people will attend the Sanam Luang ceremonies.
