Phuket roundup nabs 28 suspects for multiple alleged violations

Thai authorities have rounded up 28 suspects allegedly involved in illegal activities in the island province of Phuket, provincial police chief Pol Maj-General Theerapol Thipcharoen told a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

In this week’s operation to suppress criminals at the tourist destination, authorities arrested 28 people in a raid on multiple locations following complaints of criminal activities including drugs, prostitution and foreigners overstaying their visa. Four tourists – from Cameroon, India, Algeria and Nigeria – were accused of overstaying their visa, while four Uganda nationals were nabbed for illegal entry to Thailand. 
Arrested were 11 drug suspects and two suspects who were nabbed on gun-related charges along with two pistols and ammunition. One suspect who allegedly distribute unauthorized medicine at a medical facility was nabbed along with 1,193 bottles of injectable medicine and over 400 bottles of food supplements. 
Six suspects from scuba diving service venues were accused of violating the Tourism Business and Guide Act.
