Flood threatens downtown Chaiyaphum, villages stranded

Floodwaters from the rain-swollen Chi River have stranded around 1,000 households in 10 Chaiyaphum villages.

Highway 201 (Chaiyaphum-Sikhiu Road) connecting their communities in Ban Khwao to Muang Chaiyaphum was impassable on Monday.
A 20-metre-long section of the road between tambons Ban Khai in Muang and Lum Lam Chi in Ban Khwao is severely eroded and continues to subside.
Ban Tha Kaeng village headman Theerapong Pringchaiyaphum said about 200 students who attend secondary school in Muang were told to stay home on Monday.
Water inundated many homes and thousands of rai of farmland in Ban Khai, Chilong and Nong Na Saeng in Muang district and threatened to flood the city’s economic area.
Chaiyaphum Governor Narong Woonsiew has instructed officials to monitor the situation around the clock.
