Elderly motorcyclist killed, traffic gridlocked in Chon Buri
An 83-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he allegedly cut in the front of a truck on a Chon Buri road, leading to a pileup of five vehicles.
Police said Chu Urada was crushed to death by a pickup truck in the opposite lane when a six-wheel ice-carrying truck hit his motorcycle on a main road in Tambon Nong Plue in Bang Lamung district.
The six-wheel truck driver, Kittisak Pilekh, 45, claimed that when his truck descended from a bridge, the elderly man changed lanes directly in front of him. Kittisak said he tried to brake but it was too late. His truck hit and hurled the motorcycle into the opposite lane where the Chu was crushed by a pickup.
Kiitisak’s truck was also hit by a pickup, which was in turn hit by a sedan car.
The accident caused traffic gridlock with vehicles piled up for more than a kilometre. Police later allocated one lane from the opposite side to be used to bypass the accident scene.
