Facebook uproar over unauthorised parking fee collection from mourners

Officials are trying to find a man seen in an online video demanding Bt100 from royal mourners to park on Bangkok’s Ratchadamnoen Avenue.

A motorist posting as Thureedin Haengphak uploaded a video to Facebook at 10.33pm Wednesday showing the man asking him to pay Bt100 to park at kerbside in front of the former Government Lottery Office headquarters.
The poster said he was looking for a place to park so he could pay respects before the large portrait of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulydej set up there.
The video, in which the man claims he was collecting fees on behalf of his brother, drew quick condemnation from other Facebook users.
Soldiers from the Peace Keeping Operations Centre and Chana Songkram police were at the location Thursday night, but found neither the man in the video nor anyone else selling parking space.
Police are investigating further.
