Floodwaters rise to upper floors of village homes

Flooding at a village along the Yim River in Phichit has become so bad water has begun pouring into some homes’ upper floors.

By Tuesday morning, residents of Ban Chik Samroi in Tambon Bang Lai, Bueng Na Ram district said the situation was so bad they had been forced to collect their belongings and move them to safe places.
The village, which is situated on the low-lying Yom basin, has been flooded for over two months now. Some 20 houses have been hit by floodwaters, even though they were built on high platforms
One resident, Samniang Rodklam, 61, said she and her neighbours had put several desks together to keep their belongings dry and create places they could sleep. The villagers also have no toilet facilities.
