Chao Phraya overflows banks to inundate Nonthaburi

The bloated Chao Phraya River broke its banks to inundate houses and government offices in Nonthaburi on Wednesday morning.

This followed hours of heavy rains and the arrival of upstream floodwaters.
The overflowing river flooded houses and government offices from in front of the Muang Nonthaburi police station to the Bang Kwang Central Prison and the Corrections Department.
Water levels on the Nonthaburi 1 road were between 20 and 50 centimetres high.
Officials had to use barricades to cordon off the deepest parts, but several cars and motorcycles had engine breakdowns due to the floodwaters.
Several residents had to move their vehicles to higher ground.
The Muang Nonthaburi police station, which is located on a bank of the river, was inundated with water gushing from a drainage pipe that is connected to the river.
Policemen had to build a flood embankment with sandbags around the compound and used a water pump to drain the water.
