Fire in Bangkok building kills two

Two people were killed in a pre-dawn fire that ravaged a shop building in Bangkok’s Pom Prab (Sattru Phai) district on Sunday.

Following the fire report at 1.30am, Nang Lerng precinct superintendent Pol Colonel Kampanart Arunkhiriroj led police to inspect the scene in Soi Lan Luang 8 in Mahanak subdistrict with firefighters and 10 fire engines as well as Por Tek Tung Foundation rescue workers.
They found a five-storey wholesale clothes shop building on fire from the second floor upwards. It took firefighters two hours to put out the flames.
The building guard Samruay Paisol, 44, told police that he and two other persons were in the building. He was sitting on the ground floor while the other worker and his wife were sleeping on the rooftop when he heard someone shouting “fire on the second floor”. He said he went out to check the building and found the flames spreading upwards from the second floor and so he alerted police.
Officers later found two dead bodies – a male and a female – on the rooftop.
Police are investigating with the cause of fire.

The building has been sealed for inspection for 15 days amid fears it might collapse, while nearby buildings have been told to avoid the use of heavy machines during this period.
The victims were later identified as Boonthon Meesap, 45, and his wife Samran Thablaksilpa, 42.
