Knife-wielding man robs gold shop in Chanthaburi

A knife-wielding man robbed a gold shop in Chanthaburi’s Muang district on Monday and made off with 14 necklaces worth Bt72,000.

The robbery took place at the Chai Li gold shop on Kwang Road at 11.37am.
Police said the man, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet that hid his face, walked into the shop and tried to smash a window display box with a long knife but failed to break it.
He then grabbed 14 necklaces, weighing 3.8 grams each, and hit Supaporn Wutthiket, the wife of the shopowner, three times with the knife, failing to inflict cuts but bruising the woman.
The man then ran out of the store and fled on a motorcycle.
Chanthaburi Police chief Pol Maj-General Jaral Jitjuajoon and forensics police officers were attempting to collect the robber’s fingerprints at the shop on Monday.
Jaral said the man might be the same suspect who robbed a Sonthaya gold shop in front of the main fresh market in Muang district two days ago.
