Opposition MPs want Petronas out of Myanmar

A group of 47 opposition MPs have launched a petition urging Petronas to pull out from all of its investments in Myanmar due to the ongoing violence in the Rakhine state.

“We urge Petronas to pull out from Myanmar until it recognises Rohingya as citizens and ends the ongoing genocide,” Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli said.

Among the investments that Petronas has in Myanmar, which is marred by widespread sectarian violence, is the Yetagun gas field project.

The recent crisis in Myanmar has resulted in over 420,000 Rohingya refugees fleeing across the border to Bangladesh.
