Pracha Rath market registration proves popular

The number of people registering for the government’s Pracha Rath markets, aimed at boosting vocational opportunities for low-income earners and those without places to sell goods, has soared to 12,574 in the first two days of project registration.

Interior Ministry deputy permanent secretary and ministry spokesman Nisit Jansomwong said on Sunday that 2,358 people had registered on Saturday, which was the second day of registration.
The top five provinces with the most applicants in the past two days were Si Sa Ket (919 people), Nakhon Ratchasima (774), Sakhon Nakhon (742), Bangkok (729) and Kalasin (362), he said.
Nisit said that more people – farmers, low-income earners and those having no place to sell their goods -– could still register for the Pracha Rath markets at Bangkok district offices and other provinces’ Damrong Tham centres every day until the deadline of November 30.
The Community Development Department has operated Pracha Rath markets at 2,155 locations across the country. It aims to boost the number of vendors to 21,550 – or an increase of 10-50 vendors per market depending on available space.
