Loei to spend Bt30 million building ‘most thrilling’ skywalk

Loei approved a budget of Bt30 million on Wednesday for the construction of a skywalk overlooking two rivers at the border with Laos.

The provincial administration plans for the skywalk to be made of transparent tempered laminated glass with a height equivalent to a 30-floor building – the “most thrilling landmark” in Thailand.
The Loei administration assigned Sompong Polpattanakul, Public Works and Town Planning chief officer, to take charge of the project.
The skywalk will be built at a cliff near the giant Buddha image in Tambon Pak Tom’s Ban Khok Ngiew village in Chieng Khan district overlooking the junction of the Huang River and the Mekong River.
The 100-metre-long and two-metre-wide skywalk will offer a panoramic view of the Mekong River and sunset over nearby mountain ranges about 80 metres above the river, the provincial administration stated.
Sompong said the skywalk would be “the most thrilling landmark” in Thailand, adding that it would be safe as builders would use high-quality construction materials.
The glass will be four centimetres thick with a load-bearing weight of 500 kilograms per square metre, with each section of the glass to be checked by quality-control officers.
The skywalk is supposed to be completed late next year he said.
