SSO resolves vast majority of complaints

Employers and workers have filed 6,533 complaints over services provided under the Social Security Office (SSO) coverage in the past fiscal year, SSO secretary-general Suradech Waleeithikul said on Wednesday.

From October 1, 2016 to September 30 this year, the SSO received a total of 6,533 complaints, of which 6,039 – or about 92 per cent – were resolved by SSO officials within 25 working days, he said.
The rest would eventually be sorted out, he said, adding that the SSO had a policy for its officials to handle most subscribers’ complaints within seven days and the more complicated issues within 25 days.
Among the complaints, there were 3,212 against business establishments, 1,152 about SSO systems and services provided by officials, and 1,070 about hospitals under the SSO scheme.
A further 939 complaints were about allowance requests from the SSO fund; 30 about issues such as identity theft and redundant reimbursement of allowances or compensation; and 30 about compensation requests.
Suradech said the complaints against hospitals were mostly about staff members' improper attitude in providing services, especially in communicating about how to use the SSO services. Very few complaints were about the standard of medical treatment, as the SSO had systems in place to follow through on quality of care.
He said the SSO covered medical expenses from the beginning of a sickness until the end of treatment, so as not to cause any burden to subscribers.
