Tourists warned of resort scam using Facebook pages

People seeking to enjoy the cool weather at a famous tourist attraction in Phetchabun province have been warned of fake accommodation advertising on Facebook pages that aims to lure people to deposit money.

Anuwat sae Tao, owner of Chomview Phu Tab Berk resort, said that an increasing number of people have come to his resort and showed a fake deposit slip for a room.
“A customer showed me a slip for Bt2,400 and said he booked rooms at my resort via a Facebook page. When I saw the slip, I knew immediately that he was cheated. However, I allowed him to stay despite this because I felt pity for him,” Anuwat said.
The bank account to which the customer transferred money did not belong to Anuwat, the hotelier said, adding he then took the customer to file a complaint with the police.
He added that some customers of Phu Fachomview resort were similarly lured to transfer deposit money to fake operators via a Facebook page. They lost more than Bt10,000. Police were also alerted to that scam.
Phu Tab Berk has become a famous tourist attraction in Lomkao district in the upper central province because of scenic views that are blanketed with thick fog, and because of the local way of life. Large number of people are expected to visit the area now that the weather in the country is becoming cooler.
