Police receive name list of Myanmar victims

Thirteen Myanmar workers and the Thai driver were killed when their minivan rammed into a 10-wheel truck in Singburi province early on Friday and burst into flames.

The workers had just extended their visas. It is the latest gruesome road accident involving foreigners. Police said authorities are having difficulty identifying the victims as the bodies were badly burnt.
The driver of the van, Pathompan, was identified by the owner of the vehicle, Prawit Sanchai, 62, who met police after the accident. He gave police the name list of the passengers.
Prawit told police that the 13 victims were Myanmar workers who had gone to Mae Sot district in Tak province to extend their visas.
Prawit said Pathompan and the group left Mahachai for Mae Sot at 8pm on November 21 and arrived there on November 22 at 6am. He quoted the driver as telling him that he would spend the night there.
The accident in this Central province took place at about 2.30pm on Friday, Prawit said, adding there were three vans altogether.
Earlier this month four Japanese tourists and their Thai guide were killed in Ayutthaya province when their van crashed into a truck and caught fire, leaving no survivors.
