New deadline for rejected taxi motorcyclist applicants

New deadline for rejected taxi motorcyclist applicants

The Land Transport Department (LTD) is giving a second chance to people who applied to become licensed taxi motorcyclists last year but failed to submit all required documents in time.

“We will reconsider your applications if you submit the required documents by December 22,” LTD director-general Sanith Phromwong said on Sunday. “The documents are to be submitted at the relevant Bangkok’s district offices”.
The authorities have been regulating taxi motorcyclists in Bangkok since July 2014 by requiring these operators to register themselves and seek licences. At present, 101,391 motorcycles in the capital are taxi motorcycles.
“But we are aware that there are some more people who registered themselves but failed to submit all documents before the deadline last year. That’s why have we agreed to let them submit their documents now,” he said.
Among the required documents are vehicle registration papers that show the applicants own or possess the vehicle.
After completing the registration and document submission at the district offices, taxi motorcyclists must register their motorcycles as public-transport motorycycles by January 31 next year.
Sanith said those who sought to register their taxi-motorcycle stands but failed to submit all required documents in time would also get a second chance.
“You can submit those documents now,” he said.
He said these moves are intended to regulate transport safety for people. Passengers have been advised to opt only for the services of registered ones. If they have any complaints about the services, they can call 1584 for help round the clock.
