Clothes business soars at Rong Klua border market as mercury drops
Rong Klua border market in Sa Kaeo’s Aranyaprathet district turned into a bustling shopping destination Tuesday morning after temperatures in the area dropped to 14 degrees Celsius.
Many tourists visited the second-hand clothes market to shop for jackets and other winter clothing.
Smiling vendors took out their colourful winter clothes to attract shoppers, selling jackets and other items at prices ranging from Bt10 to Bt200.
Because of the arrival of a huge number of tourists, a joint team of local police, immigration police and rangers inspected the market to ensure that the vendors were not unfairly raising prices to take advantage of tourists.
Sellers were also told to put up clear price signs for their wares.
About 90 per cent of the vendors at the market are Cambodians who bring used clothes across the border, an official said.
The bustling activity during the cold snap has also persuaded many Cambodian workers to pull carts laden with clothes across the border checkpoint for sale at the market.
