‘Depressed’ inspector kills himself in police headquarters

A police inspector, who reportedly suffered from stress and depression, committed suicide on Sunday morning by shooting himself in his office in the headquarters of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) in Bangkok.

Police found the body of Pol Major Sahatwat Panket, an inspector at the RTP Office of Human Resources, in his office on the seventh floor of the 5th building, with a gunshot wound to the head at around 8am. A 9mm pistol was found near his body along with a suicide note that said, “Forgive me, it is because of too much depression.” His body was sent for autopsy and police inspected and collected evidence from the scene.
RTP deputy spokesman Pol Colonel Kritsana Pattanacharoen later said national police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda had sent his condolences to the family of Sahatwat, describing the deceased as a hardworking and determined officer. The inspector had been working there for about a year. The police chief ordered officers to provide the family with entitled welfare and assistance money.
