Yala men arrested with drugs and materials for bombs
Phuket police have asked forensic police to collect DNA samples from two suspects to compare with data about militants in the deep South.
Talad Yai police from Phang Nga have arrested two men from Yala province, Muhammad Hayeehayoh, 25, and Muhamamsolin Jehlong, 22. After tests showed positive results for drugs, police extended the investigation to their house and reportedly found bomb-making materials.
Late Wednesday night, police found the suspects “acting strangely” at the Sam Yak Hin Dan police checkpoint and stopped their motorcycle to check them for drugs.
When tests showed positive results, police took them to their rented accommodation in Takuapa district, where they found potential bomb-making materials including a red fire extinguisher with its cap removed, one-centimetre-diameter by 67cm-long glass tubes and a computer keyboard.
The suspects denied involvement in militant activities.
They have been taken to the Royal Thai Army Area 4, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, for further questioning.
