Toon heading to Bangkok … in a van

Toon heading to Bangkok … in a van

Singer-turned national hero Artiwara Kongmalai, better known as Toon Bodyslam, and his famous girlfriend Rachwin Wongviriya left Chiang Rai province for Bangkok on Thursday in a van.

Artiwara became a celebrated national hero following his 55-day charity run, extending from the unrest-plagued southernmost province of Yala to the northernmost part of Chiang Rai.

He completed his mission on December 25.
Despite the Army’s offer to arrange an aircraft and fly Artiwara back to Bangkok, Artiwara opted for a simple, less-noticed mode of transport. There were three vans altogether for his team.
He was seen donning running clothes and shoes as usual as he checked out of the Wiang Indra Riverside Resort. By his side were his girlfriend and some of his team members.
“We are heading to Bangkok,” Artiwara said.
In a related development, Army chief General Chalermchai Sittisart granted certificates of recognition to two soldiers – Sergeant Supis Chantarat and Sergeant Major Anulak Kaewchano – who joined Artiwara’s charity run.

“They represented the Army throughout the 55 days of the charity run, contributing to its success,” Chalermchai said, “They have demonstrated mental and physical strength, public-mindedness, and politeness.”
Anulak said support from Thai people was his inspiration.

“When people turned out to greet Brother Toon, I felt the love and unity of Thais. It’s a really great thing,” he said.
Supis, meanwhile, thanked his supervisor for allowing him to join the project.
“This is a good project and this project benefits Thais,” he said.
