Man injured in Ayutthaya railway incident

A train carrying metal bridge structures grazed the roof of Ayutthaya railway station, causing a partial collapse that injured a security officer on Saturday morning.

The accident happened at the station’s No 1 platform.
The security officer, Kanong Meesomprat, 49, was hurt when part of the roof fell on his left shoulder.
Footage from a security camera showed that the train was running past the station while some passengers were waiting on seats and Kanong was walking along the platform. Then, part of the third structure hit the platform roof, which extended over the tracks, causing part of it to fall onto the platform.
A few passengers were seen jumping from the seats and stepping back, but Kanong was hit by a falling piece of metal.
Kanong said he learned from station officers that the train was transporting five bridge structures to build a railway link at Bang Sue station.
He said the car that carried the first and second structures was able to pass the station but the third one grazed the roof. The train suffered no damage and continued on its journey.
