Wanted man found in Myanmar with war weapon

A THAI drug suspect has been arrested in the Myanmar town of Keng Tung this week for possession of a war weapon. Keng Tung police arrested Tawatchai Omchompoo, 29, on Wednesday.

An informed source said Tawatchai suspiciously stopped his vehicle along the R3B highway after spotting a checkpoint ahead.
“He also got out of his car and sprinted away, arousing police suspicions. Police then hunted after him,” the source said.
Police managed to detain him soon after and found in his car an assault rifle with ammunition. Two women were with him at the time of his arrest. Their identity was not disclosed.
At present Tawatchai , is being detained at the local police station.
Tawatchai is wanted in Thailand over his alleged involvement in drugs and fled to Myanmar to evade arrest. Both the Pathum Thani and Si Sa Ket provincial courts have issued arrest warrants for him.
Tawatchai’s name emerged in Thai news reports frequently last year after he was identified as the man who helped three female murder-dismemberment suspects went into hiding in Myanmar.
The gruesome killing received huge news coverage in Thailand. The three murder suspects soon later turned themselves in and were then deported back to Thai soil to face charges.
An informed source said the Thai-Myanmar Township Border Committee was expected to address Tawatchai’s case.
“If he is not prosecuted in Myanmar now, he will have to be deported to face legal proceedings in Thailand,” the source added.
