Krabi authorities consider purchase of marine ambulance

A meeting to discuss marine safety was held at Nong Talay Sub District Administration OrBorTor on Tuesday, where Wattana Rerngsamut, president of Krabi Tourism Association, floated the idea to purchase a marine ambulance to increase safety and provide emergency transport in case of accidents at sea.

The meeting was chaired by the Sukkai Chan-On, president of Nong Talay OrBorTor, and included speedboat operators, long-tail boat operators, tour guides and hotels representatives in the area.

Wattana said the idea would be officially filed to the authorities for consideration.
“Krabi is a hub of marine tourism from Phang Nga and Phuket with thousands of boats a day heading out on tours. The most important thing is for the captains and crew of the boat to check the condition of vessels before heading offshore,” Wattana said.
“When an accident happens, we should also be ready to tackle it as quickly and safely as possible. I’m preparing to propose to provincial administrative officials for the purchase of a medical boat to be stationed in the region, ready to transport injured patients while providing emergency first aid at the same time, just like the ambulances do on the road,” he said.
