Former national police chief suspected of links to Victoria’s parlour money trail

Former national police chief suspected of links to Victoria’s parlour money trail

A FORMER national police chief will be among those likely to be summoned by investigators working on the human-trafficking case involving a Bangkok massage parlour, a source said yesterday.

In addition to the unnamed retired police chief, five other people may also be summoned for questioning by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) as part of its investigation, according to the source.
They are suspected of involvement in the money trail of the Victoria’s: The Secret Forever massage parlour, which is being investigated for involvement in human trafficking and prostitution.
Authorities from DSI and other agencies raided the parlour last month and rounding up more than 100 masseuses who were mostly illegal migrants from neighbouring countries.

Arrest warrants issued
A number of the parlour’s executives were apprehended and arrest warrants were issued for its alleged owners, including businessman Kampol Weerathepsuporn and his wife Nipa.
Investigators have found connections between the people facing arrest warrants and those likely |to be summoned for questioning, |the DSI source said yesterday. They were found to be connected to |financial transactions involving some Bt300 million, according to the source who asked to remain anonymous.
Also, it was found that a former national police chief was named in the parlour’s lists as a recipient of free services in March 2014. The list was among the items confiscated during the raid last month.
The DSI had handed the list to the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) as part of the latter’s separate investigation against officials allegedly being bribed by the massage parlour, according to a source from the PACC.
It was unclear yesterday whether it was the same former national police chief to be summoned for questioning.
So far, none of the parlour’s employees have identified the police officers who were recorded in the list of those receiving services free of charge, the PACC source said.
The employees questioned by authorities all maintained that no state officials had received services at the parlour for free, according to the source.
