Suspect surrenders after police captain shot dead

A Chon Buri man surrendered after he allegedly shot dead a deputy police inspector trying to stop him from using guns to threaten his neighbours while he was high on methamphetamine.

Nirut Jitmun, 39, surrendered to police after he allegedly shot dead Pol Captain Issarapong Kulchinda, deputy inspector of Nong Kham police station in Sri Racha district, and shot and injured a police volunteer, Supasit Mongliang, 37.
The shooting happened on Tuesday evening when the police station was alerted that gun-waving Nirut, who appeared high on drugs, was intimidating his neighbours.
Police Lance Corporal Wonghiran Amnartcharoen said he was among officers who rushed to the scene to try to talk Nirut into handing over his guns.
But Nirut engaged in a fist fight with the officers before he shot Supasit in the abdomen.
Wonghiran said Issarapong arrived at the scene later and went to see Nirut on the second floor of the house, where he was shot shot and killed.
Chon Buri deputy police chief Pol Colonel Ronachai Jindamuk said police seized a .38 revolver, a 9mm pistol and some ammunition, and a small amount of ketamine from the suspect. Nirut also tested positive to drug use.
