Muslim man gunned down by insurgents in Yala

A Muslim man who worked as a temporary employee of a government project was gunned down in Yala’s Krong Penang district late on Tuesday night, police said.

Police said Suriya Yupula, 32, was shot dead just 10 metres before he reached his home in Ban Salatae village in Tambon Huay Krathing in Krong Penang at 10.30pm.
He was shot once at his head and several times in his body with an M16 assault rifle. Police found five spent shell of M16 ammunition at the scene.
Suriya was a coordinator for a local development project. He was riding his motorcycle back home after an errand when insurgents hiding on the roadside fired at him.
After his motorcycle fell over, one attacker came out and fired at his head, police said.
Muslim insurgents in the deep South have been using terror campaigns to intimidate local Muslims providing cooperation to the Thai authorities.
